2 – 7 July
Training as per usual program at Frankston and Narre Warren.

9 – 14 July
Special Training Program – Narre Warren Pool

Due to capital works and pool maintenance the Frankston Pool will be closed for this week.

We will be running a special program at Narre Warren to assist families in getting their swimmers to training. All sessions are open to all swimmers, regardless of squad level and swimmers can attend as many of the sessions as they like. We understand that is a long way for our Frankston swimmers to travel so we have extended the evening sessions in an attempt to minimise the number of trips needed.

As we are right in the middle of short course season it is important that swimmers are training consistently, particularly for our more experienced competitive swimmers. We understand that the timing is not ideal, but missing significant training sessions in the middle of season is not ideal either!

If you would be happy to make the drive once or twice, but aren’t looking forward to heading over to every session (we don’t blame you!), it might be worth car pooling with other families. If you are interested in being a driver for a few sessions, Jess is happy to put together a roster – or try to fill seats. Please talk to her at training if you would like help with this!

Please note that Jess and Derren will be attending all sessions during the Special Training Program, this will also be Jess’s last week as our Head Coach, so please get along to support her and it is also the perfect opportunity to get to our new Head Coach Derren.

PROGRAM
Mon AM – 5:30 to 7:30am
Mon PM – 5:00 to 7:30pm
Tues PM – 5:00 to 7:30pm
Wed AM  – 5:30 to 7:30am
Wed PM – 5:00 to 7:30pm
Thurs PM – 5:00 to 7:30pm

It is with great pleasure we announce the appointment of our new Head Coach for Kings Swim Club – Derren Gardiner.

Derren is a Bronze Licensed Accredited Swimming Coach and comes to us from Casey Tigersharks Swimming Club where he helped coach sessions for both A (National) and B (State) squads over the past two years, assisting them at both the State Age Championships as well as the National Age Championships. While at Tigersharks Derren also worked closely with the Junior squads, in particular those straight out of learn to swim to prepare them with the skills needed to train effectively in a squad environment. Derren was also involved on the Committee as a Recruitment and Marketing Officer.

With over 20 years experience in the swimming industry, Derren has been involved as a gym instructor, swim school co-ordinator, learn to swim instructor as well as being involved as President and Treasurer of O’Doherty’s Swimming Team where his son was a squad member.

Derren will be attending training this Tuesday morning (26 June 5:30 – 7:30am), Thursday evening (28 June 4:00 – 7:30pm) and also the Holiday Training Program at Narre Warren in the second week of the school holidays (9-12 July). Please try to get to these sessions to meet our new Head Coach and make him feel welcome.

We say farewell to James who has applied for as was successful in gaining part-time employment and unfortunately his hours at his new job clashed with his Swim Club hours so he handed in his resignation last Monday and will finish up this Wednesday night 27th June. Thank you James.

We can announce that have appointed another new coach to Kings Swim Club to cover James’s sessions. Our new coach is Caelen Bensen and he comes to us from the Langwarrin Kingswim centre where he coaches KPS and Learn To Swim under Fiona’s guidance. Caelen is a keen triathlete and when he is not at Uni or Kingswim he can be found riding to and from Casey Race where he swims countless laps or running around his local oval. Caelen is very excited to be joining the team at Frankston and looks forward to meeting you all.

Caelen will be taking James’s Tuesday morning shift, Gus will be taking James’s Wednesday night shift and Caelen will take Gus’s Friday morning shift. Both Caelen and Gus will transition into those shifts this week. Please make Caelen feel welcome at Kings Swim Club.

The Kings Swim Club Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday 26th May 2017 at 3:00pm – 4:00pm at Peninsula Obstacle Racing Course

The AGM will commence once the squad members going on the  Peninsula Obstacle Racing Course.

In order for the AGM to proceed we need a quorum of members (in our case Members Parents as they need to be represented by someone who is 18+). A ‘quorum’ is the minimum number of members needed to transact business at a meeting.  The quorum for an annual general meeting is at least 50% of the total members.

If you cannot attend our meeting, you can appoint a person to represent you. This person ‘holds a proxy’ and their vote is counted as yours. You may authorise a person in writing to act as your proxy to attend, speak or vote on your behalf at the AGM. If you are appointing a proxy, can you please complete the Proxy Voting Form and return it to secretary@kingsswimclub.com.au by 1pm on Thursday 24th May 2018.

We still need Committee Members. Please remember we are all volunteers and that we are all busy people too, we all work, we all have children to run around, so please consider joining the Committee. The more Committee Members we have the less work there is for everyone to do. With several long term Committee Members stepping down this season we need your support more than ever. IF WE ARE UNABLE TO FILL THE NECESSARY SPOTS ON THE COMMITTEE, KINGS SWIM CLUB CAN NOT CONTINUE. If you would like to join the Committee, please complete the Nomination Form and return it to secretary@kingsswimclub.com.au by 1pm on Thursday 24th May 2018.

Return completed Kings Swim Club Nomination Forms and Proxy Forms by Thursday 24th May 1pm to secretary@kingsswimclub.com.au

Please discuss your participation in these meets with your Coach.

It is with deep regret and much sadness that I must inform our Narre Warren swimmers that we are losing Luke as a Coach. He interviewed and was successful in getting an Assistant Manager role at Kingswim St Kilda. I wish him all the best in his new role and thank him for a wonderful year. He has been a fantastic Coach, mentor and friend to the swimmers, their families and to the committee.

The good news is that St Kilda have been very kind and they are giving Luke plenty of time to train up Miranda, Scott, Jake & Alisha so they are comfortable in their new roles before he leaves. Make sure you wish him well and say farewell before he goes.

Miranda and Scott will be taking on the role of Gold/Silver Coaches and we welcome Jake & Alisha, who will join Miranda in the role of Bronze Coach.

Jake and Alisha are both former Kings Swim Club members and are really happy to be joining the team and to be able to mentor and coach the swimmers the way they were mentored and coached when they themselves were swimmers.

Please make them both feel welcome when you see them out on pool deck.

Urban Quest and Presentation Day

Our End of Season event will be an “Amazing Race” style adventure on Sunday 15th April, 12:30pm – 2:45pm. Run by Urban Quest it will be full of clever riddles, hilarious challenges and lots of fun and action. The Quest will set up in the park near the Kingswim Narre Warren Centre and will see teams of 5-6 competing to try and outwit, outsmart and outplay each other.

Please bring swim gear as one or more people per group may need to complete a water challenge. Some of the activities will require the use of a Smartphone with data.

This event is an outdoor event, to be held at the park near the Kingswim Narre Warren Centre so please dress appropriately for the weather.
