Training Gear

Squad Members must bring the following items to every training session:

  • Goggles
  • Fins
  • Kick Board
  • Pull Buoy
  • Towel
  • Water Bottles (sports drinks not permitted)

Where dryland training in included in the session, Squad Members must also bring the following:

  • Runners
  • Workout Clothes

Bathers vs Race Suits

Training bathers:

  • are made of endurance fabric
  • are designed to last many times longer than normal bathers
  • need to be comfortable

Technical or Performance Race suits:

  • provide compression and are designed to aid performance
  • are made of a variety of materials including lycra, polyester, elastane, polyamide and even carbon fibre
  • are not lined and are extremely tight – for girls, this means not being able to pull the straps more than 4-5 cm above the shoulders
  • are not to be worn by athletes 11 years and under (refer Swimming Victoria restrictions)

At swim meets, warm-up are done in training bathers and the swimmer changes into a dry race suit to await their swim.

Squad Members should always train in training bathers – not race suits.
